Up until now, Austria’s most well-known exports to the United States have been sausages and Arnold Schwarzenegger. One export more Americans SHOULD get to know are the four-piece rock band from Vienna, Here for a Reason.
Taking influence from pop-punk, emo and post-hardcore music, the band has been around for nearly ten years, dropping their first album back in 2018, and have been going strong since then. With five singles out this year alone, they’re gearing up to drop their third album, and based on the singles out, it should be a very fun musical ride.
Songs like “Queen” are filled with heartfelt lyrics about standing up to abuse (“Please make no scene, you’re not a queen. It was the last time you treated me like this”) and emotional melodies that still ride high off energetic guitars. “Last Ride” has the sugary-sweetness and bubbly hooks of Fall Out Boy, with some excellent harmonizing and fiery drumming.
The band excel at big, soaring choruses, as you might hear on 2024 single “Done With You,” as they sing “I don’t need you anymore” with life-affirming passion. And the band isn’t afraid to drop in a post-hardcore break as they do during the song’s bridge. And their latest single, “Limits,” has the kind of inspiring themes and sing-along chorus that could just save someone’s life someday.
