Apologies if this NMF post is up later than usual, but my wife and I just welcomed our very first child into the world, so as you can probably imagine, The Indy Review has had to be lowered in my priority list. I still love sharing great new music with folks…I just might have to do it on the baby’s schedule.
Thankfully (for me), it’s a lighter release week compared to last week. For new albums out this first Friday of October, I’m highlighting the latest from famed guitarist Johnny Marr, rock n’ roll princes Stanley Simmons‘ debut LP, and after a break-out year, we have the new album from Dexter and the Moon Rocks. And The Paradox continue their pop-punk reign on their new EP.
Noah Kahan already conquered 2026 with his excellent album The Great Divide, but clearly he’s not done yet, dropping a brand new song written for the new Hunger Games film. Spanish Love Songs are ‘doomscrolling’ on their latest single, while Kings of Leon reflect a ‘cold blue dawn.’ Cursive are back with “Wounded Animal,” and Dazy are feeling a bit ‘ugly’ on their new track. We’ve got a new Rolling Stones b-side, and soul-folk star Michael Kiwanuka is back after a dangerous health scare with his latest single.
Famous New Wave band Erasure are back with a new single from a forthcoming album, and beloved local group Hotel Mira dropped two new slices of indie rock nirvana. Father John Misty takes us into his ‘x-panded universe’ while Brigitte Calls Me Baby takes us to new ‘altitudes.’ Fontaines D.C. show us some ‘tongue,’ while K-OS gives us some guns and roses.
Other artists back on the list this week include Hayley and the Crushers, Teagan Johnston, Domi Hawken, The Helltones, Peter Gabriel, Stono River Project, Edens, PÆRISH, Luna Rosa, The Bar Stool Preachers (feat. Fishbone), PLACEBO and Imogen Clark.
And some fresh names I discovered that deserve your ears this week are Kingston Rossdale, Coley Kennedy, Amanduh, Hudsy, JATK, Adjust the Sails, Vonda Shepard and CAULBEARERS.
So while I’ll likely only be listening to lullabies for the next while, you should definitely put on our New Music Friday Playlist and listen to this great new music!
