Brooklyn quintet Good Time Mystery Vision (GTMV) have been dropping singles and live releases of their melodic, dual-harmonized rock songs for nearly ten years, and they aren’t slowing down anytime soon. With music that’s sometimes moving, sometimes danceable, and always hummable, their songs bring the feel-good vibes we can use these days. Recent single “Calla Lillies” is a great example.
The seven and a half minute track is awash in dreamy, psychedelic guitar chords that make you want to drift off into the ether. The soulful lead vocals build feeling, and when the drums come in, the track explodes into a shining, dual-harmonized pop gem. The production is on the raw side, but instead of negatively impacting the quality of the song, it gives a nice balance to the pop leanings and ties it to the legacy of 70’s psychedelic rock recordings that showed even hippies could wail on an electric guitar and go hard.
