Artist: Sorority Noise
Song: A Portrait Of
Genre: Punk, Indie, Emo
Sounding like Deja Entendu-era Brand New, with The Weakerthan‘s John K. Samson on lead vocals, Sorority Noise are one of those groups who make every lyric and syllable they sing sound relevant, and leave you with a desire to relisten to the songs to pick up everything you missed the first time around.
Formed in 2013 in Hartford, CT, the group has already released two LPs and a number of EPs and 7 inches. Their latest album, You’re Not as _______ As You Think contains the excellent “A Portrait Of“. Even while addressing dark lyrics about friends contemplating suicide, the song does so with a propulsive melody and dry sense of humor; “It’s been a while since I’ve seen God, and I’m not trying to lead him on, but he’s always trying to fuck me to the tune of my favorite song.” It’s ultimately uplifting, even if it’s still very much in emo territory.
