Check This: Lillie Mae – Wash Me Clean

Artist: Lillie Mae

Song: Wash Me Clean

Genre: Country, Bluegrass

It’s hard to take most modern country artists seriously these days, but when Jack White vouches for them, you better believe they are worth a listen. Lillie Mae has been part of White’s touring band, and has recently released her solo debut album, Forever and Then Some, on White’s Third Man Records. A masterful fiddle player and multi-instrumentalist, Mae has performed across Nashville and around the world for most of her life.

While she’s not afraid to bring a bit of rock attitude to her country tunes, single “Wash Me Clean” is a folksy ballad that finds Mae accepting a checkered past instead of lamenting it. “There ain’t enough water to wash me clean, from all I’ve done and what I’ve seen” Mae sings as a statement, without regret. By looking forward, the song cuts away any cheese and leaves listeners with a beautiful, sincere tune, from an artist worth venturing into country music for.
