Throwback Thursday: Brian Setzer Orchestra – Jump, Jive an’ Wail

Hey, remember that time in the early 90’s when swing music had a revival that lasted even less time than ska? You could turn on the radio and find the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Lou Bega, Squirrel Nut Zippers and these guys, The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Setzer began his career fronting the 80’s band the Stray Cats, before going solo with his orchestra and finding success.

Their indelible hit, “Jump, Jive an’ Wail” was actually a Louis Prima cover, not that the MTV crowd were paying attention. For a brief moment, kids were putting on zoot suits, slicking back their hair, and trying to swing dance Can you see that coming back anytime soon? Neither can I. These days, the BSO mainly plays holiday shows and Christmas song covers, so let’s just appreciate that little moment from the past when they were mainstream rock stars with today’s throwback.
