Country: Japan
Coachella Day: Saturday
Everyone needs to see a Japanese heavy metal band once in their life, right? X Japan is one of the first Japanese bands to find mainstream success on an independent label, gaining a following through their symphonic power metal ballads. Since releasing their first album in 1988, they have sold over 30 million, and will now be hitting the Coachella stage this year.
One song you should hope to hear is epic anthem “Born to Be Free”. It sounds just as you might expect – big guitar solos, soaring vocals with an easy to sing chorus. This is the kind of metal that MTV was blasting in the 80’s, and which you still head bang to in secret today. If you’re crazing something like Poison or Whitesnake to break up the monotony of electronica and twee indie rock this Coachella, these guys should give you the needed fix.
