While music tastes run a long gamut, I can’t say I know someone out there who doesn’t appreciate and enjoy a great film score. The iconic compositions of people like John Williams are ingrained in our culture and our lives, so losing a talented composer can be just as devastating as losing a rock, pop or rap star.
Jóhann Gunnar Jóhannsson was an Icelandic composer who did excellent, Academy Award-nominated scores for The Theory of Everything, Arrival, Sicario and a number of other films. He passed away earlier this week at the age of 48. Of all his scores, his Golden Globe-winning one for The Theory of Everything remains my favorite. Its beautiful, thoughtful and elegiac, and a wonderful way of remembering this artist’s work.
