Local heroes in their hometown of Salt Lake City, Cinders is a six piece indie pop band that are starting to outgrow their indie status. Having played to sold out crowds in Utah, the band has started sharing stages with acts such as Cold War Kids and Milo Greene, bringing their rowdy acoustic pop to audiences around the United States.
Their latest album, Looking Forward to Looking Back, is a catchy and buoyant affair, and contains the great first single “Sleep Walking”, and my favorite track on the album “Never Wanna Go Home”. A bouncy, acoustic tune brimming with youthful energy and innocence, the rich, warm production serves up the nostalgic lyrics without an ounce of melancholy. While musically they aim for the chamber pop heights of classic Arcade Fire, great lines like “Root beer covered carpet is where all of this get started” help keep the band grounded and relatable.
