When people think of major rap meccas in the United States, the cities that come to mind are generally Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Detroit. Houston, TX is generally not thought of as having an influential rap/hip-hop scene.
Fat Tony could certainly change that. A smart lyricist and musically adventurous performer, Fat Tony stands out by not falling into any genre traps. His influences range from Prince and E-40 to Bikini Kill and Bad Brains, which has certainly influenced his own style. One of the many stand outs from his album 10,000 Hours is “Got it Out the Mud”, which melds laid back rhyme spitting with acoustic blues that may remind some of Everlast.
