Melbourne, Australia’s seven-piece, jazz-influenced indie rock group Approachable Members of Your Local Community clearly don’t take themselves too seriously. One need only see a photo of them or read their mouthful of a name to get a sense that they’re having more fun than us.
Thankfully this fun crosses over into their music, which blends pop, funk, and jazz into their grooving style of indie rock. The song that first put them on the map was their debut single “Millennium Queen”. With slinky, rhythmic verses that may have you recall Geggy Tah‘s 90’s hit “Whoever You Are”, a bridge that ascends to gospel-heights, and a sparkling dance rock chorus, it’s a fantastic amalgamation of musical inspirations that combines into one powerfully memorable jam.
