Drew Thomson writes about the ups and downs in life – the trials and tribulations he knows all too well. Best known as the singer for punk band Single Mothers, Drew recently began this new solo project, The Drew Thomson Foundation, releasing the EP Stay, which built its songs upon acoustic guitars, and found their sound from quieter places.
On latest single “Break”, Thomson looks at relationships from a broader perspective. The song’s narrator watches their lover prepare to leave town and them, and with a surprising understanding, the narrator agrees; “You need a break. You need a break to know I’m the one for you.” With a soaring hook and hopeful melody, the track quickly becomes an upbeat ear worm you won’t mind having stuck on rotation in your head.
