New Music Friday Playlist – September 13, 2019
It’s a whopper of a Friday today. NINE new albums will be fighting for listening over the next week. Most exciting is Mongolian throat-singing hard rock group The Hu, who could be the break-out world act of 2019. Next are some long-time favorites of mine Goo Goo Dolls, who have always had a knack for a pop rock hook. Alternative legends Pixies have a new one promising some good music, and lesser-known alternative artist Gruff Rhys always has some unusual (and unusually catchy) songs. Up-and-coming hip-hop/alternative rock artist Hobo Johnson has his potential break-out debut, as does British rocker Sam Fender. Indie poppers Belle & Sebastian have released an album that acts as a soundtrack to an independent feature, and Canadian rockers Glorious Sons, after releasing a slew of great singles, have their new album out. Oh, and a new album from psychobilly rockers Tiger Army.
Unless you’ve been under a rock, you likely heard about the HellaMega Tour this week featuring Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy, all of who released new songs this week. Two other alternative greats, Cold War Kids and Phantom Planet (who have reunited and are playing some select shows this year, including 2 nights in Vegas with Maroon 5 in December) also have new tracks to jam out to this week. Classic rockers The Who, Neil Young and Ringo Starr have new singles, as to rappers Big Boi and Joyner Lucas.
