New Music Friday – June 5, 2020

As we enter June, we do so in a world that feels radically different than last week. As protests rock the world, rap duo Run the Jewels decided to do a free early release of their new album, which is ready made to be the soundtrack for our current dynamic.

For those of you looking for a summer escape from your speakers, the new albums from Long Beach Dub Allstars and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever should provide a nice respite from the tense atmosphere of the world. Also take a musical trip to Spain with the latest album from Hinds and recent World Watch artist Gizmo Varillas.

Punk legend Bob Mould is certainly not looking for a respite, as he’s dropped a new pointedly political banger. Speaking of punks, Frank Turner and NOFX have a split EP coming out where they cover each others songs, and the first two covers are out today. There’s new tunes from classic acts Elvis Costello and The Waterboys, some reggae vibes from Michael Franti and the Mad Caddies, and some new-school pop from The Aces and Joy Oladokun.

Throw in new tunes from rapper Astronautalis, Americana songwriter Jonathan Wilson, Britpop from Travis, and Australian indie rock from Ball Park Music, and you know your audio pallets won’t get bored the next week.

Take a listen to all of these tunes and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
