So the big music news today is that Taylor Swift dropped a surprise new album last night produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner and featuring Bon Iver. I think we can all acknowledge that she doesn’t need our little site’s help in getting the word out about Folklore, and there are a number of other worthy new releases today that don’t deserve to be overshadowed by the T. Swift juggernaut.
The first of these is the latest from Utah synth pop rockers Neon Trees. The next is the latest full-length from one of our favorite New Zealand exports The Naked and Famous. Finally, we’ll be spinning the new album from British pop-punks Neck Deep. Yup – 3 “N” bands – the “n” standing for “necessary listens”.
Among the new songs out today, we first have an old but newly released track by The Rolling Stones featuring Jimmy Page. Another classic rocker, Bon Jovi, has a new single out as well. Fans of rap should check out the new ones from 24kGoldn, PoorStacy and Gorillaz featuring Schoolboy Q. You can take a listen to new soul from Durand Jones & The Indications or Lee Fields and the Expressions, or some solid new Americana songwriting from Old 97’s, Guster, Charley Crockett and Lydia Loveless.
To top it off, there’s a lovely cover of Guns N’ Roses‘ “Patience” by the late Chris Cornell.
