Lomelda is the band formed by Silsbee, TX’s Hannah Read with her high school best friend. Since releasing their first album in 2016, the group has evolved and changed as the members have shifted. Veering from gentle, finger-picked songs to expansive folk to indie rock, their sound covers as much range as the lyrical subjects of the songs; subjects including Hannah herself, as is focused on in her latest album Hannah.
Opening track “Hannah Sun” is a beautifully breezy folk track. Read’s brittle voice flows along over soft acoustic chords, a warm drum beat and winding and flittering synths. Addressing her own name, Read sings “Hannah do no harm”, as if a plea to another person. It’s hauntingly effective.
