Nashville, TN based singer/songwriter TonyB. has been building a following for himself off of his 90’s and early-2000’s R&B influenced music. Citing influences such as Aaliyah, D’Angelo and Usher, the artist debuted his first full album, Flashing Lights, earlier this year, and is already back with a smoking new single, “You Knew What This Was”.
The atmospheric production definitely hearkens back to a 90’s R&B sound, with an earthy rhythm and light, tropical vibes. There’s soulfulness to TonyB.’s vocals that may remind some listeners of John Legend, and they carry a thoughtful gravitas that connects emotionally. There’s a plaintiveness to his delivery that shares qualities with some of the best folk music out there as well.
