New Music Friday – October 30, 2020

October 2020 is wrapping up and preparing for a very un-Halloweeny Halloween. Since you won’t be going to costume parties, maybe you can use some of your extra time to stream some of this new music?

We first get a new album from the great Elvis Costello, one that finds him turning back to some of his biting post-punk early work. Rapper Common has a new set of topical tunes, and indie rocker Eels has a new LP featuring his sharp songwriting. Guitarist Tom Morello also has a new EP out featuring a guitar battle with the always-epic Slash, and you should listen to the new EP from Strays Don’t Sleep if you’re in the mood for some fine melancholic songwriting.

As next week is the election (probably one of the most stressful and anticipated ones in ages), there’s also some very political songs hitting today as well from some of our favorites. Canadian singer/songwriter Dan Mangan has a Trump-eviscerating new track, as does Minnesotan rapper Dessa and NY punk poet Jesse Malin. Nothing.Nowhere have a new collaboration with KennyHoopla hitting the net, and we’ve also got an unexpected cover of “Under Pressure” featuring the Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s Karen O and the legendary Willie Nelson.

Hear all of these, plus new singles from Superchunk, Descendents, Noah Gundersen, De La Soul, Bright Eyes w/Phoebe Bridgers, Seahaven, Jake Bugg, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, Busta Rhymes w/Kendrick Lamar, Cassino and a whole lot more.

Hear them all here in our New Music Friday Playlist!
