We are back with our first Friday of new music of 2021. It has been a crazy week, and we hope all of you had a safe and healthy holiday time. While there isn’t much that can erase the traumatic events that took place at the Capital yesterday, we hope some of the new tunes we have for you today can at least give you a nicer weekend!
With it being the beginning of the year, the release calendar is light, but we do have a new album from country-rock troubadour Steve Earle, a collection of covers of songs by his late son Justin Townes Earle who passed away last year. It’s a wonderful tribute to the younger Earle, who was a great songwriter himself. Another excellent songwriter, Britain’s Passenger, has his latest album out today, and we have the debut album from soul singer Aaron Frazer. There’s also an EP from Switchfoot‘s Jon Foreman.
In single news, this week announced the return of Kings of Leon, who dropped two songs in anticipation of their next full length, expected in March. Up-and-comer Mod Sun is certainly on fire, and proving it with his latest single featuring punky pop princess Avril Lavigne. Legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty has dropped his first new single years, as have 80’s darlings Duran Duran. Other favorites of ours like Fratellis, Hold Steady and Grizfolk are also releasing new songs.
Tom Morello makes a double appearance – once on a new track of his with System of a Down‘s Serj Tankian guesting, and then joining the Pretty Reckless on another. Keeping the hard rock train going, Chevelle are back with a new banger. We’ve also got tracks from a slew of independent artists we think you should get to knowing, including The Vaughns, Carpool Tunnel, Telco and Vagabon.
Listen to all of these in our New Music Friday Playlist!
