Banger of the Week: Algiers – Irreversible Damage (feat. Zach De La Rocha)

Atlanta’s Algiers do what few rock bands do these days successfully with an enviable ease; blending soul, funk, hip-hop, hard rock and industrial sounds, while still finding a frightening melodicism, all while infusing their lyrics with political and cultural critiques. With this much talent on hand, it’s not surprising they were able to get on Rage Against the Machine frontman Zach De La Rocha‘s radar, and have him join them on this week’s helluva banger.

“Irreversible Damage” starts at a 10 in intensity, and only grows more daringly engrossing. The synths and drum machines great incredible tension, while vocalist Franklin James Fisher’s vocals find a way to be both funky and spooky. It’s the sound of a riot in a rave, with Zach De La Rocha joining in to drop an incendiary verse that gets the fire burning hotter. The synths take on a fuzzy, melancholy sound during the bridge, before the track breaks into a Middle Eastern tribal orgy of sound.

There is so much going on in this song, and all of it is incredible. Check out this banger in our Bangers of the Week Playlist on Spotify or Apple Music!
