DIY, Two Tone ska duo Death of Guitar Pop have chosen fierce independence as they traverse the music industry. They self-manage and fund their delicious brand of ska pop, and have won praise from ska royalty in their home country. They’ve crowd-funded their last two albums, sold out shows and drawn huge crowds at festivals. I think it’s about time they earn some love across the pond, especially with their latest, excellent single “First In, Last Out”.
The adrenalized track swoops in with a buzzy, pop-punk flavor, though the vocals are pure two-tone ska in their soulful, almost crooner-esque delivery. Suave horns elevate the track to new heights, giving it a skank-worthy energy. It would have been all over the radio in the late 90s, and should be all over your playlists right now.
