Comeback Alert: Sixpence None the Richer – We Are Love

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, it was difficult to escape Sixpence None The Richer‘s music. Their hit “Kiss Me” and cover of “There She Goes” were used in more rom coms and teen films than most could count, along with pervasive radio play. And in the TikTok era, the band’s songs have continued to be embraced by younger generations. With this resurgeance in popularity, it feels like the group has picked the perfect time to have their original line-up reunite to record their first EP and drop their first new song in over 20 years.

And that track, “We Are Love”, is a beaut. At the very start, the vocals come in, forming a harmony, before a crispy round of acoustic guitars build an airy serenity. There’s a slight darkness to the track that is balanced by the chorus of “We are love, we can make it”, slathering hope over the moodier music. There’s a jangliness to the percussion that ties the track back to the group’s 90’s roots, and a surprising heaviness in the electric guitar lines and powerful drumming.

The group has never sounded better. Listen to the group’s comeback song right here, and listen to the EP Rosemary Hill when it’s out on October 4th!
