Country: The Philippines
To many, coding for software is like another language. And often, those who are able to learn one language find it easier to learn others. So it shouldn’t be that surprising that a group of Filipino technology professionals one day decided to put aside their keyboards and pick-up instruments to start recording songs as Pull Request. And based on the results, they picked up the language of music fairly well.
Their single “Road to Nowhere” is a heavy, melodic rock song reaching out a hand to a friend in need. Impassioned vocals lay a foundation of strength and comfort, with cascading guitar riffs adding a breadth of hope. Knowing the world of coding, being on a computer all day long, can be lonely, and this track could be a response to this. A beacon to those feeling that loneliness that they can find hope in connecting with others.
The sound of early 2000’s melodic rock continues to be on display in “Imposter Syndrome,” another heart-on-its-sleeve song about self-doubt, questioning your value, and feeling out of place. Like a lost The Calling track, the song has strong pop-hooks, with muscular drums and guitar riffs keeping it firmly in the rock world. There’s a feel-good breeziness to most recent single “Chill, I Got This.” It’s meant to be straight-forward and life-affirming, and it works perfectly as that.
