Many songwriters are excellent storytellers, but it takes a brave one to attempt to create a world and tell a larger tale, song by song. Well, “brave” is in this new songwriter’s name, and it sounds like he’s up to the task. For his debut solo project, Brave the Weatherman takes us into his original, fictional world, where a car crash split him in two across worlds. The story unfold across the EP’s songs, and last month, BtW dropped the first taste of the EP – “Atlantis.”
The song has the high-energy, rollicking drums and crunchy riffs that you’ve come to expect from pop-punk, with the emotive hooks that keep you listening. As Brave sings “Atlantis, I can see your light. Atlantis, rescue me tonight, and fill my lungs with oxygen. Shine your sun onto my skin,” you’ll both submerge yourself into the world mentally and emotionally, as Brave’s lyrics work just as well metaphorically as they do as literal storytelling.
