The trials of a long distant relationship fueled the ideas behind Side Saddle’s first single off forthcoming EP, Watermelon. “Ink & Dirty Strings” is a power-pop tune that is reminiscent of early Rooney or Weezer. What began as a folk solo project has evolved into a solid pop group from the creative powers of Ian McGuinness.
The song is the definition of clean proper power pop that brings a strength to the sadness that underlies the lyrics as McGuinness sings about his longing for his absent partner.
September 6th, the band will release its EP and if the record has songs of this quality throughout, it’s going to be a hit. While you are enjoying listening to it, stick around to check out our Check This play list and another of Side Saddle’s fanstastic punky pop, “Dog in the night.”
