Artist: Barb Carbon
Song: “Patience”
Album: The Fighter
Genre: Folk, Americana
Atlanta, Georgia’s Barb Carbon has been cutting her teeth for nearly 20 years, performing on the streets until stages opened up for her. Her folk and roots-rock sound, matched with earnest lyrics, has gotten her sold out shows in her home state as part of The Ain’t Sisters. While touring as part of that duo has lead to shows with artists like Grammy-nominees Tank and the Bangas, she’s now venturing out on her own with her first solo album The Fighter.
One of the highlights from the set is “Patience”, which incorporates classic girl-group harmonies, a swinging R&B rhythm, and swooningly soulful vocals that hit the mark perfectly. Partly a dreamy ode to a lover (“In this cosmic swirl of life and love and time and space, the ever-spinning world, all I can see is your sweet face”), and a manifesto on waiting for the right one, the song is an overall infectious, timeless bop that should Carbon make a name for herself as a solo artist.
