May has gone by like blur, as we prepare to go into a summer in quarantine. The world is crazy right now, with riots in the streets, protesting happening nationwide, and a lot of people hurting.
New music from Jimmy Buffett will certainly not solve any of these issues, but hopefully it can help some folks chill out and relax for an hour. The surprise new album from folk singer J.S. Ondara deals so painfully directly with the current quarantine situation, it will be hard not to feel the stories of those suffering he portrays. It may then take the new EP from one of our favorite rising punk bands Fang Fang to lift your spirits once again.
There may also be something in all the new songs out today that help you get through this. Whether it’s the raucous punk from The Lawrence Arms, the 80s-leaning pop rock from The Night Game, the old-school country western searcher from Charley Crockett, new soul from Andra Day, rap from Murs, or Tank and the Bangas ode to Andre 3000. There’s definitely something for everyone today, and I know everyone needs something to help them through these dark days.
Listen to this week’s New Music Friday Playlist and find your escape.
