Taking up the mantle of solid, melodic punk rock songwriting in the vein of Face to Face and Social Distortion, Angels Heart were a Los Angeles-based group that were blasting off in 2012, releasing three albums and touring the U.S. I first discovered them through their first album, Sixty-Eight Cutlass, which they released for free, and was instantly a fan of the fist-pumping first single “Been Knocked Down”.
While the lyrics aren’t always 100% clear, it almost doesn’t matter as singer Bryan Joseph infuses power and heart into the song through his passionate vocals. The guitars blaze and the rhythm section feels like it’s trying to knock you down with explosive sound waves as the track kicks things into high gear within seconds.
Unlike some past Lost Gems bands, Angels Heart have left a bit of an online trail, including a Facebook page that hasn’t been updated in six years, and songs up on an official soundcloud page. It appears the group is inactive, but maybe they’ll find this post and let us know what’s going on with Angels Heart now.
