New Music Friday – July 2, 2021

The long Independence Day weekend is upon us, and while that means many of you will be listening to some specialized playlists for the holiday (and feel free to blast our Holiday BBQ Bash playlist), that doesn’t mean you should ignore any of the new releases coming out today!

Indie/dance/hip hop crew The Go! Team have their latest album out, and it should be the perfect fun summertime record for those of you who aren’t crazy about the typical Top 40 summer offerings. On the heels of earning his first gold album, TikTok pop-punk ingenue JXDN has dropped his debut album. Then, in the complete opposite direction, there’s a new EP out from UK hardcore crew Turnstile that will get you sweating while you slam dance.

One of the new singles getting some buzz this week is the new one from Big Red Machine (Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon’s project), as Taylor Swift will be making a couple appearances along with some other notable acts. Another surprise collaboration announced this week was that rock icon Joan Jett will be producing and guesting on the finale album from rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson, and her first single from that project is out today.

Britpop rockers The Vaccines have their latest single out, and Steve Gunn has dropped two new songs for your ears. Punk stalwarts the Descendents have their latest out, and if you want some reggae-inspired tunes, check out the latest from Michael Franti and SOJA. And if you want some interesting covers, you can hear Yungblud tackling Madonna, and Tenacious D doing a Beatles medley for charity.

As it’s a lighter week, we’re able to fill our list with a bunch of new artists we think you should be listening to, including Vanessa Gimenez, Wolf Castle, The Ophelias, Grady, Lana Love, Catbite, Gully Boys and Rightfield!

Hear all of these and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
