Radio stations promoting local artists remains an important sector for breaking new acts and promoting music discovering. If not for KROQ’s Locals Only, I wouldn’t have heard “Ruin My Life” by blvckjesus. Starting off as a producer of electronic and bass music, the Los Angeles artist has recently ventured into creating rap, hip-hop and rock music, the latter of which clearly led his new single “Ruin My Life” to garner attention on alternative radio.
Opening with raw riffs, the song hits us with a perfect melodic pop-punk/emo melody. Lines like “Baby I just want you to ruin me” capture the spirit of the track, with its youthful energy and unpolished street vibe. Blvckjesus makes it sound easy, making rock music this straight forward and good.
