Wings of Desire is the musical project of couple James and Chloe, whose mutual obsession with Krautrock, Berlin-era Bowie, early Noughties New York and Factory Records music, along with intense debates on a range of issues, led to the formation of the band. After releasing a number of singles last year, the duo are preparing to release their EP Amun-Ra on August 13th, and have recently released the second song from it, “Choose a Life”.
About the song, the band says:
“Choose A Life is about our automated programming which convinced us that once we get ‘there’ we will be happy. That once we’ve acquired the material check list we will be fulfilled, but this is never the case. The song explores finding joy in the smaller moments of the everyday, the mundane, those micro expressions that we take for granted. And realising that you don’t have to bend the world to make your mark. That it’s better to just enjoy it.“
When listening to the song, it’s not hard to hear the group’s influences. Their spoke-sung lyric delivery has echoes of the Factory Records and New York bands the duo love, while the vigorous drums and kinetic guitars fly forward. Listening to the track feels like being on a caffeine buzz while time hyper-lapses around you. And even when the caffeine wears off, the song leaves you feeling revitalized.
