It’s a rainy day in Paris as I write this, on the first true vacation that I’ve had in quite a long time. When I think of French music, groups like Daft Punk and Phoenix come to mind, but the song I most associate with the country is the classic “Les Champs-Elysees” by American-born French musician Joe Dassin.
Maybe it comes from hearing the song in a Wes Anderson film, but Dassin’s 1969 classic feels like the ultimate high-class Parisian song. Musically it’s certainly enchanting; its sing-songy piano melody that recalls The Beatles “All You Need is Love”, and Dassin’s welcoming vocals, spark up some magic around the City of Lights.
Whatever it is, the track is going to be on mind my throughout my trip, which I am going to get back to right now. You can enjoy the track here.
