Banger of the Week: Rest Easy – On the Outside

On their latest single, Vancouver punks Rest Easy tackle domestic violence from a personal place. The heavy, emotional track recalls the experience of a friend of vocalist Dylan Hossack:

“On The Outside” is about a friend of mine, a survivor of domestic violence. I think DV is a subject that needs to be talked about more, especially now. I wanted to write a song to help people who are stuck in DV and also to help normalize the conversation. So so many people in this world deal with DV everyday. I hope this song helps them along and at the least lets them know they are not alone.”

“As I sit around in silence, not thinking about the violence, I know that it is out there” Hossack sing/screams in his signature coarse vocals, as the guitars rage and drums power the song through. “That was the first night I saw that look in your eyes. The one that scares me to sleep at night” hints at the feelings of helplessness that both victims and those close to them often feel in these horrible situations.

Just because a song is a banger, doesn’t mean it can’t have heart and meaning. Listen to this one in our Bangers of the Week playlist on Spotify or Apple Music!
