When musician/songwriter/actor/filmmaker Questa (aka Emilio Cuesta) writes a song about a failed relationship, he goes deeper with it on every level.
As a songwriter, he examines the relationships through a Freudian lens, via a swinging baroque pop melody that conjures the kind of 60’s groups that we don’t have anymore. The song has swooning melodies, buoyant keys, and a beat that will make you want to strut down a street like Austin Powers.
The song does have haunting elements though, and as the ghostly direction it goes in is perfectly brought to life by the surreal and creepy video Questa has created for it. Taking inspiration from A Clockwork Orange, the imagery on display here is wild; it opens with Questa trapped in a womb inside of a straitjacket, delving right into the mother/son undercurrents in his dissection of the relationship.
What follows is even more disturbing; strapped to a chair, a nurse with an oblong face injects milk into our protagonist in various ways, before dancing around the lab with him. Colorful psychedelic backgrounds appear like local access commercials from a fever dream, and things only continue to get weirder from there.
