So let’s time travel again back to the early 2000’s, when mp3.com was a popular place for young, unsigned bands to post their tracks in hopes of finding fans and gaining traction. In college, I’d spent hours searching the site and downloading random free songs to see what I would discover. And man, I discovered some great stuff.
20+ years later, many of these bands not only are disbanded – some haven’t left a single digital trace of themselves.
I’m here to reverse this.
A track that I found and always really liked came from a band called G.L.I.T.C.H.. From what I remember, the group were an indie rock act. But that’s all I remember. I have a hazy memory of the band photo. No idea where they’re from, how long they lasted, or how much other music they had around. I’m not even 100% sure their name is G.L.I.T.C.H. and not G*L*I*T*C*H*.
But what I do still have is an mp3 of their song “Glide.” While the production on the track is decidedly rough and lo-fi, it doesn’t take away from its serene beat and breezy melody. There’s a warmth to the chugging guitars, and a dreaminess to the vocals that cast a spell on the listener, and a great pining chorus. When he sings “The comfort of your voice can make me glide,” it’s so full-hearted, it can get past any walls of cynicism.
As I have done with past Lost Gems artists, I’m trying to locate the band, as I would love to officially release their old music on Indy Review Records. So if anyone out there knows anything about them, or if you’re a member of the group, please get I touch! And until I find them, this is the only place you can hear this song online!
