Artist: Brother and the Hayes
Song: “Something to Find”
Album: Another Strange Time EP
Genre: Americana, Folk Rock, Country
Texas-born, Tennessee-based sibling duo Brother and the Hayes are in their fifth year of releasing music. Jennie Hayes Kurtz and David Bingaman’s songs musically incorporate blues, bluegrass, country and folk into their Americana formula, while lyrically venturing between stories of travel and heartbreak, whiskey and women, and on their latest single “Something to Find”, wistful soul searching.
“I’m on the outside looking in. All these other people comfortable in their skin…sometimes it gets hard to recognize myself” opens the track, as Bingaman delves into being part of a world of lost souls and heartbroken drifters. Over a steady, lightly rocking arrangement, enhanced by a soulful guitar solo and sprinkling keys, the song recalls the Drive-By Truckers at their most thoughtful, with flits of melancholy that never bog down the track in saccharine slush.
