Canadian multi-hyphenate Hawksley Workman has built an impressive career for himself. Whether producing work by Tegan and Sara, writing melodies for late French rock icon Johnny Hallyday, opening for David Bowie, or releasing fifteen solo albums, he made great use of his 20 years in the arts scene of his home country.
His latest single, “Around Here”, is a melodic anthem that, in his own words, “is a call to action to rise to the challenge of long-term, committed love: the sometimes uphill and banal kind. This call is to reaffirm, strengthen, and celebrate the long term commitment, the stumbles, the doubts, and to glorify humility.” Workman does a magnificent job creating sonic textures around his sincere, airy vocals. There’s an undeniable uplifting feeling to “Around Here” that matches the lyrical content perfectly.
